Leg Press
Legs · Machine · Beginner
How to do it
- Adjust the seat and footplate of the sled machine to a comfortable position.
- Sit on the sled machine with your back against the backrest and your feet shoulder-width apart on the footplate.
- Grip the handles on the sides of the seat for stability.
- Push the footplate away from your body by extending your legs, keeping your heels on the footplate.
- Continue pushing until your legs are almost fully extended, but without locking your knees.
- Pause for a moment at the top of the movement, then slowly lower the footplate back towards your body by bending your knees.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Sets and reps
Use an easy load and stop well before failure while you learn the movement.
Finish most sets with 1-3 good reps still available.
Rest 2-4 minutes so each working set stays strong.
Common mistakes
- Chasing reps after your position changes. End the set when you can no longer repeat the movement with control.
- Shortening the range as fatigue builds. Use the largest pain-free range that keeps tension on your glutes.
- Turning the set into a speed contest. Pause briefly in the hardest position, then control the return instead of dropping into the next rep.
